FAQ

Cuyahoga Valley Career Center (CVCC) is the campus for high school and adult career-technical training in the Cuyahoga and Summit County school districts of Brecksville-Broadview Heights, Cuyahoga Heights, Garfield Heights, Independence, Nordonia Hills, North Royalton, Revere and Twinsburg, and all fiscal services are independent of these associate school districts.

CVCC annually introduces more than 24,000 K-12 students from our service area (25 communities that comprise eight school districts) to career opportunities in health care, technology, business, transportation, construction, manufacturing, public safety, human services and other career fields.

All CVCC and associate district students receive the benefit of CVCC Career Development activities, such as career portfolios, job shadowing, mock interviewing, as well as job placement, internships and career coaching.

Annually, many CVCC seniors are awarded scholarships to attend college and earn college credit toward an Associate Degree while at CVCC; in 2011, 224 students were eligible to receive college credit via the Ohio Tech Prep initiative, and more than $60,000 in scholarship money was awarded to CVCC seniors.

When you view your ballot for the Tuesday, November 8 election, you may see not only CVCC’s renewal issue (Issue #8 in Cuyahoga County & Issue #22 in Summit County) on the ballot, but also an issue for your local school district.

Millage is not transferable between our associate school districts and CVCC. Passage of the CVCC 1 mill renewal will not increase or decrease the tax dollars received by any of CVCC’s associate districts. Likewise, passage of millage in the other school districts does not generate additional tax dollars for CVCC.

Since 1982, the 25 communities that CVCC serves have renewed 1 mill of support to provide quality career training programs to high school students and adults.

This 1 mill levy generates 6.18 million dollars across 8 school districts and 25 communities and accounts for a little over 41% of CVCC’s operating budget.

CVCC offers access to career training for people with special needs who want to be productive members of the workforce.

CVCC was recently ranked #1 out of the 91 Career-Technical Planning Districts (CTPD’s) in Ohio, according to the Ohio Career-Technical Education 2009-2010 Secondary CTPD Workforce Development Performance Reports.

Based on 2010 follow-up data, 96% of our high school graduates go to work, or college, or both, and 93.8% of adults go to work.

CVCC provides a variety of discounted services to our communities, such as lunches at the student-run restaurant, salon services, special event facilities and others.

CVCC Adult Education is accredited by the North Central Association (NCA) Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement, an accreditation division of AdvancED®.
